What is a prepaid travel card?

Travel money card vs prepaid travel card

Travel money cards offer convenience and flexibility, allowing you to hold multiple currencies and switch between them while exploring the globe. Prepaid travel cards are usually specific to a currency, like prepaid Euro or US Dollar cards.

Whether you choose a travel money card or a prepaid travel card, when you load funds, the exchange rates are locked at the time of transfer, but be aware of potential hidden markups.

With the Wise travel money card, you can send and spend money anywhere at the mid-market rate. No markups, no sneaky transaction fees.

Which is the best travel money card in Australia?

Different travel money card providers use different fee structures, which can make it hard to see which is the best travel card for your needs. Some use upfront commission, but it’s also common for providers to hide their fees in the exchange rate they use. This way they can offer an attractive headline like ‘zero commission’ or ‘fee free exchange’ while still making money from currency conversion.

To find the best prepaid travel card for your travel money in Australia, you’ll need to compare a few providers - looking at both the fees and the exchange rates used. We have compared a few providers in different areas to help you find the best prepaid travel card that fits your needs.
