What are the Revolut account plan types in Australia

To get a Revolut card, you must have a Revolut account. The accounts come in three forms, all of which allow international spending, but each offers different features, perks, limits, and costs. Let’s take a look at each. ³

Revolut Standard plan

Revolut’s most basic plan allows for international spending and comes at no cost for opening or maintaining an account. This plan has the most limited features.

  • No monthly fee.
  • ATM withdrawals are free up to $350 per month.
  • No fee currency exchange for 25 currencies up to $2,000 per month during the week.
  • 3 commission-free stock trades.
  • Available to users below 18 years old under the Revolut < 18 account.

Revolut Premium plan

The Revolut Premium plan has a monthly fee but extended limits and additional bonus features.

  • A monthly account fee of $9.99.
  • ATM withdrawals are free up to $700 per month.
  • Discount on international payment fees.
  • Express card delivery at no cost.
  • 24/7 customer support.
  • 5 commission-free stock trades.

Revolut Metal plan

What are the fees for the Revolut card vs Wise card?

A Revolut account and card have fees depending on the plan and type of transaction. Here are the main fees you can expect for a Standard Revolut plan and how they compare to the Wise Card in Australia:

What exchange rate is used by the Revolut card

Revolut uses the interbank rate. This is the rate banks use between themselves. Revolut has its exchange rate as variable, so it can change.

There can be an additional fee on the exchange rate. For instance, transfers to Thai Baht have an extra 1% fee. ⁷

How do you get a Revolut card?

To open a Revolut card, you must first have an account with Revolut and have downloaded the app. You can find the Revolut app in the iOS or Google play store and sign up directly from the app.

Once you’re set up, here are the steps to getting a Revolut card:⁸

  • Step 1: Open the Revolut app and tap the tab for “Cards.”
  • Step 2: Press the button “Get card.”
  • Step 3: Select “Prepaid card.”
  • Step 4: Complete the order.
  • Step 5: Set up your PIN code.
  • Step 6: Provide the delivery address.
  • Step 7: Submit your order.

It is free to get a card, but there is a delivery fee of $9.99 per card or $33.99 per card for express delivery within Australia for Standard plans. Premium or Metal plans get a card delivered through express delivery for free.

You can check your card request status under the “Cards” tab on the app.

What are the eligibility requirements for getting this card?

As long as you are a Revolut account holder, you are eligible to get a Revolut card. Revolut requires regular account holders to be over the age of 18, to provide contact details, and to inform how the account will be used.

Revolut does have a product called Revolut < 18 for account holders below the age of 18. ⁹

How long does it take to get the card?

The estimated delivery date of your card will be provided when you complete your order. Revolut does not provide real-time tracking of a card if it is standard delivery. However, you can find your expected delivery date if you tap on the “Cards” tab in your app and tap on “Track delivery” on the card you are expecting.

Keep in mind that a virtual card will be available to you once your account is open, in case you don’t want to wait for your physical card to make purchases. The virtual card can be connected to your Apple Pay or Google Pay.

How to load the account/card

You can load your Revolut account in four ways - a bank transfer, by card, with Apple Pay or Google Pay, or by money sent from another Revolut user. You will need to use the Revolut app to load your account. ¹⁰

How to use the Revolut card

The Revolut card can be used in four main ways:

  • Swiping or inserting the chip physically at the store, restaurant, hotel, or any point of sale.
  • Using the card through Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  • Using the disposable single-use card details when shopping online.
  • Adding the Revolut Shopper chrome extension to link with your card.

In all cases, you will receive a notification on your phone of the transactions that have been completed with your card.

What else do I need to know?

Remember that the card will need to be delivered in the country where the Revolut account is registered. So if you have opened your Revolut account in Australia, the card must be sent to a delivery address within the country - not abroad. ¹¹
