The Qantas Club Lounge

The Qantas Club Lounge is a premium airport lounge service provided by Qantas Airways to eligible travellers.

Available at major Australian airports and select international locations, these lounges provide exclusive, complimentary amenities and services such as¹:

  • Dedicated check-in
  • Priority baggage handling
  • Wi-Fi
  • Premium food and beverage services
  • Bathrooms and shower suites with amenities kits and towels provided
  • Business facilities including private workstations, photocopying and printing
  • Comfortable seating and more.

It should be noted that depending on which airport you are in, the class of travel you are flying in and how lounge access has been acquired these benefits may vary.

Types of lounge access passes

There are several ways to secure access to Qantas Club lounges, these include getting passes through:

  • A paid Qantas Club membership
  • Paid guest passes
  • Frequent flyer status
  • Travel class access (complimentary for First and Business class passengers)
  • Complimentary invitations from the airline or other lounge pass holders
  • Partner airline access, such as through the One World Alliance
  • Credit card lounge passes

The latter is what we will be covering in this guide. As noted above, not all lounge access passes will provide the same level of service or amenities.

For instance, while a paid membership may provide unlimited lounge access, with a credit card, this may be limited to a set number of visits per calendar year. We’ll cover this in more detail further on.

It should also be noted that no matter how you secure access to the Qantas Club lounge, as a premium offering, strict codes of conduct and dress codes apply.²

How to get access to the Qantas Club lounge with your credit card

Upon arrival to the Qantas Club lounge, you can typically gain access to the facilities using your eligible credit card lounge benefits by either:

  • Giving lounge passes specifically issued to you by your credit card provider to lounge staff. You may need to request these in advance of travel.
  • Showing your Qantas-aligned credit card to staff at the lounge entry

We recommend checking with your credit card issuer before departure for details on how their Qantas lounge access benefit works.

You may also be asked to provide ID or provide other personal information to staff upon entry.² Where the yearly number of visits is limited, some checks may be performed to confirm access is permitted.

Conclusion

While these credit cards with complimentary Qantas lounge access can be very appealing, it’s wise to consider a variety of factors before signing up.

Its recommended to also pay attention to:

  • Annual fees and whether any fee waivers apply based on usage or when signing up
  • The minimum credit limit, most have a fairly high minimum of AUD$15,000 so its essential to ensure you can service this
  • The applicable interest rate on any unpaid balances each statement period
  • How the other features will benefit you or fit your needs, a card that serves multiple purposes represents greater value overall
  • Fees for using your card overseas – these can include transaction fees, ATM fees and exchange rate margins among other added costs
  • What counts as eligible spend and how this influences points accrual, lounge access, insurance and other benefits

As many of these cards come with a significant annual fee, it is essential to weigh up the value of the cumulative benefits offered against this. This will help to ensure you’re receiving the best possible value and fit for your needs.

If lounge access is the driving factor, it may work out better to simply purchase a Qantas Club membership or look into alternative, dedicated lounge access programs. This can then be paired with a competitive travel money solution as needed.
