Travel insurance is a form of safety net that can help protect you financially if something unexpected happens during your travels. The policies often cover travel logistics as well as health emergencies and personal belongings.
Through Jetstar, you can purchase travel insurance to protect you on your domestic or international travels.¹
Currently Jetstar has two packages on offer.¹
As the names suggest, one package was created for use by people travelling exclusively within Australia, while the other is for international adventures. Either policy can be purchased when booking your flight or through the ‘Manage booking’ feature if you already have a reservation.
Jetstar travel insurance policies are underwritten by AIG, a world leading insurer.¹ If you have a claim, it’s AIG who will assist with it.
Regardless of whether your trip is international or domestic, there are some clear benefits to holding a travel insurance policy. Let’s see what they are with Jetstar.
Starting with the Australian domestic policy, these are some of the benefits included in the policy.²
Now onto the international policy, here are some of the benefits associated with that one.³
Now let’s look at some specific examples of what’s covered by Jetstar travel insurance policies, including the maximum benefit amounts – all in Australian Dollars.

You can see a full breakdown of the policy benefits on the Jetstar website or in the product disclosure documents (PDS) for each policy.
To find out what Jetstar travel insurance will cost you, you need to get your personalised quote. This is not unusual for travel insurance as many companies take into account factors like your destination and trip length when determining the policy premium.
Most travel insurance policies will have lists of exclusions, which are events or circumstances where you wouldn't be covered if a loss, expense or liability arose because of it. These are detailed in the PDS, which usually includes a specific list of general exclusions.
Here are some of the things that are excluded by the Jetstar travel insurance policies.²
To be able to hold a valid Jetstar travel insurance policy you need to meet the eligibility criteria.
The domestic policy is available to Australian residents travelling within Australia.² At the time of purchase you can’t be aware of any circumstances which could lead to the trip being cancelled or disrupted, plus you must be medically fit to travel from the time of purchase to the departure date.
The conditions for international policy are slightly different.³ You must be an Australian resident who's enrolled in Medicare and has the unrestricted right to enter Australia.
The policy covers from the travel commencing in Australia to the travel dates selected, and again you should be medically fit to travel and unaware of anything that could cause the trip to be cancelled or disrupted.
To get travel insurance from Jetstar you need to buy it through their website.¹ This can be done when you initially buy the ticket or later through the ‘Manage Booking’ online portal. When you purchase the policy Jetstar will send you the relevant documents to confirm you hold a policy.
You can submit a claim online or by contacting a help line.¹
To submit a claim online you need to complete the File a Claim form, providing any required information, evidence and documentation.
If you need assistance fast you can call the 24 Hour Emergency Assistance line on +60 3 2772 5593.
Here’s a couple of things to keep in mind about the Jetstar insurance policies.¹
