Wise Travel Card in India

The Wise Travel Card is available for Indian residents who are planning to travel.

We'll verify your identity using your Aadhaar number, PAN, and video verification.

How long will my card take to arrive?

Your physical card will take between 5-7 days to arrive depending on where in India we're shipping to. Cards typically arrive faster in Tier 1 cities.

How do I activate my card?

Enter the 6 digit code that comes along with your card in the physical envelope on the Wise app to activate it.

If you lose your code, you can use you card for a chip and PIN transaction to activate when abroad. You can also activate the card via any ATM by checking the balance and entering the PIN. This 4 digit PIN can be viewed on the app/website, under the Cards tab.

Where can I use my card?

You can use your card when travelling abroad. You can't use your card in India, Nepal or Bhutan. We also don't allow transactions in sanctioned jurisdictions.

How can I verify my bank account?

When sending money from INR, we need to make sure that money is coming from your own account. If we detect a mismatch against your PAN name or account number, you'll need to provide a bank statement or a bank profile PDF.

A bank statement can be provided if:

  • The name on your bank statement matches exactly with the name on your PAN card

  • The account number on your statement fully matches with the account number in the linked bank transaction

  • The transaction to Wise is visible in the statement

A bank PDF needs to be provided if:

  • The name on your bank account is slightly different than the name on your PAN card

  • A bank PDF needs to be a print PDF version from your Netbanking page, where your profile details, like PAN number (obfuscated), your account name and your account number are clearly visible. Footnote of the PDF must mention the bank’s official website link. We can't accept mobile screenshots

What documents need to be provided for proof of travel?

We require the following documents:

  • Your passport

  • Your flight or hotel bookings ticket

  • Your visa, if applicable

You don’t need to provide proof of travel documents again in the case of re-loading money to your card during the same trip.

How to unload money from the card?

You can initiate unload (withdraw) on any unutilised funds in foreign currencies from the Wise app. You’ll be asked to provide proof of bank account ownership if you’re sending it to a different bank account than the initial one that you have paid in.

Note: As per guidelines, you can only withdraw the balance (unload the card) from the card after 10 days of the last card transaction. This rule doesn't apply if there are no card transactions done on your account.

Fees & Pricing

What are the ATM withdrawal charges from the card?

All withdrawals are free up to and including a cumulative of 200 USD per month. If you withdraw more than that, the fee is 1.40 USD + 3.25% of the amount over 200 USD.

What's Tax Collected at Source (TCS)?

TCS is a tax regulation for remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) in India. We’ll use your PAN number to check if TCS applies to you. If it does, we’ll charge you an additional fee for your transaction and Wise’s banking partner will remit the TCS collected to the tax authorities in India. You’ll see the applicable TCS amount on the Review step of the transaction.

  • If you transact less than 10,00,000 INR in a financial year, no TCS will be charged on payments for travel, vacations, or visits to family and close relatives

  • If you transact over 10,00,000 INR in a financial year, you’ll be charged 20% of the amount for travel or vacation purposes

  • You'll need to declare if you've remitted less than 10,00,000 INR in the current financial year. If you've remitted more, you’ll be charged TCS on the full amount of the transaction

The financial year starts from 1 April and ends on 31 March the following year.

What's the Goods and Services Tax (GST)?

GST will be calculated based on the transaction amount and fees according to the relevant provisions of the Indian GST law. We’ll show you the applicable GST amount on the Review step of the transaction, and you’ll be able to download a tax invoice for the GST paid.
