We're facing a higher number of contacts so it might take a bit longer to respond to your email. We are working on answering everyone as quickly as possible.
We understand that handling the finances of a loved one who’s passed away can be very difficult.
We do our best to make the process of closing an account, and if needed, withdrawing money, as simple as possible.
How to report a death to Wise
Get in touch by emailing us at bereavements@wise.com.
To help us find the account, please include their name and any other information you think might help. For example:
The phone number on the account
The email address used for the account, or any email address which might have been used
The date of birth of the account holder
Their membership number or a transfer number
Please attach a copy of the death certificate to the email too. If you have a Wise account, you can upload it via this secure link.
If you also want information about the account
If you’re the legal next of kin and wish to find out the account balance or statements, you’ll need to send over:
Death certificate
A copy of your ID. If you have a Wise account, you can upload your ID here
Evidence of your right to act on behalf of their Estate — this can be a will appointing you as Executor, or a proof that you are the legal next of kin, such as a birth or marriage certificate
If you're a business co-owner and the person who solely managed the company’s Wise account has passed, you’d need to provide:
Death certificate
A copy of your ID. If you have a Wise account, you can upload your ID here
Legal document showing you're a shareholder or director of the business
If you’re a solicitor, attorney or notary reaching out on the behalf of an Executor of the estate, we will need:
Death certificate
The Executor’s ID
Proof of Executorship
An authorisation letter signed by the Executor with an official stamp or seal
If you want to withdraw money from the account
You’ll need to fill in a form, depending on where the deceased person was residing:
Please attach copies of the required documents to your email alongside the filled out form. If you have a Wise account, you can also upload these via this secure link.
If you’re missing or unsure about the documents, you can still contact us. The more information you can provide, the better we can help you.
