What fee am I charged to hold large amounts of EUR?

We are updating our prices. From 19 April 2022, the EUR holding limits will change:

  • Personal customers have a free allowance of 3,000 EUR, while business customers have a free allowance of 30,000 EUR.

  • An annual fee of 0.9% will be charged for any amount that you hold in EUR above the allowance threshold

For our existing customers, these changes apply based on their region. Find out your notice period here. If you are already registered with us, the following conditions apply until then:

  • Personal customers have a free allowance of 15,000 EUR, while business customers have a free allowance of 70,000 EUR.

Your free allowance includes your EUR account and any EUR you hold in jars.

We’ve introduced this fee back in December 2020 because interest rates are negative in the Eurozone. This means that it costs us money to hold EUR for our customers.

How much can I hold before I get charged?

Starting from 19 April 2022, new personal customers have a free allowance of 3,000 EUR, while new business customers have a free allowance of 30,000 EUR. This change will apply to our already existing customers from 18 June 2022 onwards (or earlier, depending on their registered address).

Note: Personal customers already registered with us still have a free allowance of 15,000 EUR, while business customers have a free allowance of 70,000 EUR. Changes will apply based on your region. Find out your notice period here.

Your free allowance includes your EUR account and any EUR you hold in jars.

How does the fee work?

The fee only applies to any amount in EUR that you hold above your free allowance.

If you go over your free allowance, we’ll wait 3 days before we start charging the fee.

After this, we’ll charge you for any days in the month where you hold over your free allowance. We’ll take the fee from your account at the end of each month.

This table shows how much it costs to hold 1000 EUR more than your free allowance over time.
